What 281 doesn't have is places to legally park a truck. Between the south edge of San Antonio and George West you pass through Pleasanton, Jourdanton, and Three Rivers, and the practical options thin out fast — a handful of fuel stops, some gravel shoulders, and a lot of small-town streets that were never built for a 53-footer to sit on overnight.

If you're running the corridor, that means you can stop without leaving your route: pull off, park behind a gate, sleep, and be back on 281 in under five minutes. Coming down from Loop 410 South it's about 30 minutes; from Loop 1604 South, closer to 25. Heading the other direction, George West is roughly 50 minutes further and Three Rivers about 35.
Being off the highway rather than on it is deliberate. Yards fronting a busy US route deal with constant noise and easy access for people who have no business being there. A gated lot a couple of minutes off the road with camera coverage on the entry and rows is quieter and harder to wander into — which matters when you're the one asleep in the bunk.
